DEPARTMENT OF PEDIATRIC AND PREVENTIVE DENTISTRY

The Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry deals with the dental treatment of children and also called as pedodontics. Pediatric dentistry is a speciality of dentistry that focuses on oral health care issues of infant, children and adolescence up to the age of 14 years. This department deals not only with the treatment aspects in children but also education, motivation and prevention of dental diseases, including those seen in children with special healthcare needs.

The Department of Pedodontics is located on the ground floor comprising of a spacious, bright and colourful clinic having ten dental chairs. This department has qualified, experienced teaching staff dedicated to the academic excellence of the students. The department equipped with all the necessary and contemporary equipment (including digital radiography) and clinical materials for students & the faculty for effective and efficient management of all dental problems seen in Children. This department is the only referral centre for Pediatric Dental speciality treatment in the district of Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. We will carry out procedures like Naso-Alveolar Moulding (NAM) in Cleft Lip and Palate conditions, full mouth rehabilitation under general anaesthesia. School dental programmes, including school teacher’s dental training programmes, are conducted regularly to increase awareness about Pediatric Dentistry. With an adequate number of patients, students in this department gain plenty of clinical experience. Special children like Downs syndrome, mental retardation, cerebral palsy have poor cooperation for dental care they are routinely treated effectively under sedation or general anaesthesia in this department.
